Nicklaus and SorensTam bid to design Olympic golf course
Jack Nicklaus and Annika Sorenstam are looking to build a course in Brazil where the Olympics will be played in 2016. They have been asked to be ‘world ambassadors’
Nicklaus has said to have written a letter to the International Golf Federation requesting a consideration of himself and Sorenstam as architects of the first Olympic golf course since 1904.
They are up against numerous course design companies who have shown an interest.
Nicklaus made mention to the fact that "There's not a public course in Brazil," and agrees that the public have access to the golf course long after the Olympics leave Rio de Janeiro, "even if it's a resort."
One potential site already has been identified and if selected, the duo would collaborate on the strategy of each hole; Nicklaus from championship tees for the men, Sorenstam with women in mind.
Nicklaus Design has developed 341 courses in 34 countries, including 3 in South Africa.
